Save the Date – Missouri Soybean Association Annual Meeting, 50th Anniversary
Missouri soybean farmers’ annual gathering at the Capitol has been set for 2016. In addition to celebrating 50 years of the Missouri Soybean Association, Missouri soybean farmers will meet with industry representatives, legislators and one another for the Missouri Soybean Association’s annual meeting February 1-2 in Jefferson City.
“Soybean farmers are an important voice for Missouri agriculture, as well as for transportation, exports and economic development.” said Tom Raffety, a southeast Missouri farmer and president of the Missouri Soybean Association. “The Missouri Soybean Association is the farmers’ voice in Jefferson City, and we look forward to bringing farmers together and to the Capitol to not only celebrated, but also to share soybeans’ impact with key decision makers.”
That impact includes more than $1.3 billion in exports, $2.6 billion in cash receipts, and $4.2 billion in total annual economic impact. In addition, through soybean checkoff-funded research and investments in sustainability practices, one bushel of soybeans can now be produced with 50 percent less energy, 50 percent fewer emissions, 40 percent less water and 35 percent less land than in 1980. Farmers will also speak to the opportunities for increasing biodiesel production and usage in Missouri, and how they’re managing risk after a very challenging 2015 growing season.
The Missouri Soybean Association’s annual meeting will include an evening reception, business meeting, and a keynote address from Joe Jobe, CEO of the National Biodiesel Board. After the meeting, Missouri soybean farmers will have the opportunity to visit with their legislators.
In addition to those activities, the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council will be hosting a breakfast in the Capitol and will be featuring biodiesel-fueled vehicles.
The annual meeting is open to the public and free to members of the Missouri Soybean Association and invited guests.
