Cultivating soy’s future through research and partnerships

Providing a place for in-field research, business and market development, and education, the facility strives to be responsive to Missouri soybean farmers’ needs.

The Bay Farm Research Facility began to take shape in 2004 with the purchase of the first parcel of land just off Rangeline Road outside Columbia. Eight years later the facility opened with a top-notch facility for soybean-related research.

A home for Missouri-grown research

At the Bay Farm Research Facility, Missouri Soybeans conducts cutting edge research to help Missouri farmers continue to provide a sustainable, safe supply.

Northern Missouri Soybean Breeding Program

The Northern Missouri Soybean Breeding Program is focused on development of conventional soybean varieties that meet the agronomic needs of Missouri growers. Developed specifically for Missouri soils and growing conditions, these varieties are evaluated for traits such as soybean cyst nematode resistance and sudden death syndrome tolerance with an emphasis on high yielding lines.

High Oleic Soybeans

Field trials for soybean varieties with high oleic acid content take place at the facility. In addition, the evaluation of soybean compositional traits takes place at the state-of-the-art laboratory. Soybean varieties with value-added traits will improve the profitability and competitiveness of soybeans grown in Missouri.

Other Agronomic Research

In addition to soybean breeding work, the Bay Farm Research Facility is home to many cooperative research efforts on cover crops, soil fertility and weed resistance issues.

Knowledge sharing

At the Bay Farm Research Facility, on-farm research and demonstration opportunities regularly take place for soil, water and wildlife conservation projects, including those with the USDA, Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). The facility is also used for events, meetings and training sessions.
