Statement: USDA ERS and NIFA Move – Kansas City
This statement may also be used as an op/ed or letter to the editor.
Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and USDA named Kansas City as a top consideration for the new home of USDA ERS and NIFA, and we appreciate his leadership and attention to moving those agencies to locations central to their constituents, farmers and rural communities.
It’s win-win for farmers to have better access across USDA, and bringing ERS and NIFA to the Midwest creates stronger opportunities for partnerships and collaboration on research, education and outreach. Kansas City has great proximity to leaders in animal health, plant science, agricultural technology and innovation.
The success of having USDA offices in the Midwest, rather than in Washington D.C. is easy to see with RMA and FSA in Kansas City, AMS in St. Joseph and Des Moines, NASS in St. Louis and the National Agro-Biodefense Facility in Manhattan, Kansas. This is a move that will benefit all involved, and we’re proud to support Secretary Perdue and so many others’ efforts to bring USDA ERS and NIFA to Kansas City.
